Filming Process

Now that I have completed all of the filming that I need for my music video, I can look back and see how things could have been done differently and if I think anything could have been improved during the filming stages.

First Shoot
The first time we went out to film was very successful. This is when we got all of the footage of the artist singing in the woods when she was surrounded by all of the photographs. I think having the images hanging behind the artist was a good idea and it was filmed very effectively. One negative about this filming shoot was that we did not get enough close up shots of the artist singing. This meant we had to use many extreme close ups in the next filming shoot so that it would look as if these shots were filmed in the same location.

Second Shoot
The next lot of filming we did was the footage of the artist near the waterfall. Overall, I think this shoot was also very successful. Some of the shots that we filmed of the artist were very effective, especially some of the close ups. If I could improve this shoot it would be that we had filmed earlier in the day. As it was late November when we filmed this footage, it meant it began to get dark between half past 4 and 5o'clock. This meant that because we could only film after school because of our lessons, we would only have about an hour to get all of the shots because of how quickly it would get dark.

Third Shoot
After editing the footage of the first and second lot of filming, we realised we needed to film the footage of the couple so that we could see which parts of the song we needed to film the artist singing again. This shoot was difficult because the male actor was quite difficult to get hold of and was very busy, so he couldn't always film when we were able too. But in the end we manged to get hold of him but only got a small amount of footage. This was because the male actor was pushed for time and had to rush off because of another commitment. Although there wasn't much footage, what we did have (when edited together with the black and white effect) looked extremely effective.

Fourth Shoot
By now, we were extremely pushed for time and we urgently needed to complete our music video. We got hold of the male actor who was very helpful and we filmed the couple again. This time we had plenty of time so we managed to get all the footage of the couple that we needed. Overall, I think this was the best shoot as we had planned beforehand exactly the shots that we needed so that we came away with everything that we wanted. If I could change anything about this, it would be the location in which it was set. I would have liked to have filmed some footage of the couple at the beach or on the moors but because of our time scale this was not possible.

Fifth Shoot
Once we had edited together all of the couples footage, it was clear which parts of the song we still needed to film the artist singing. This made this shoot also very easy as we knew what we wanted and just got on and did it. Overall this was very successful but if i could change anything it would be that we had thought more in depth into the costume and setting of this final shoot.

Overall, I am very happy with the way the filming and editing process went. If I could go back and change one thing about this process it would be that we had started filming earlier. My time management hasn't been very good meaning the last couple of shoots have been very panicked and rushed. This meant that I did not make the most out of the type of shots I could of had or think in detail about the mise-en-scene. Other than my time management, I am very pleased with the way this process has gone.
